For centuries, Aboriginal communities across Australia have relied on traditional bush medicine practices rooted in deep ecological knowledge. This textile celebrates that heritage, drawing inspiration from the healing traditions of the Warlpiri people of Central Australia. Medicine Men and Women identified native plants—from sticky hopbush to beach bean—combining them with animal fats to create remedies for ailments. These formulations, passed down through generations and sometimes documented in cultural records, represent a sophisticated understanding of botanical healing. Artist Narelle Kitson from Willowra Community brings this ancestral wisdom to life through her work, honoring the intersection of medicine, bush food, and spiritual practice that defines her people's connection to Country.
